Library Wishes 2014

Library Wishes

If the Library Genie granted you three library wishes, what would they be? From Sept 2 – 22, 2014, we asked our users to let us know! We were thrilled to receive 152 submissions for a total of 349 wishes!

The wishes can be viewed below. Additionally, if a wish could be “granted” right now, that information is included in the Comment column.

The most popular types of wishes were for:

  • Additions to the library’s collection – a book, journal, database, or other type of resource
  • Additional study rooms
  • Open 24/7 -- which the library has granted!

The library first started soliciting wishes in 2013 as part of our strategic planning process. The 2013 Wishes we received were outstanding, so we asked for wishes again in 2014. In 2013, we received 108 submissions for a total of 254 wishes.

I really love those walk-study machines. They supersede the awesomeness of sliced bread.

more extensive access to accesspharmacy resources

collection requests, databases

I wish for later hours. (1am on weeknights and 7pm on Saturday).

Wish granted! Starting Oct 13, the library building will be available 24/7 to CU Anschutz faculty, staff and students. You will need to have your campus ID to enter and remain in the building.

wishes granted, hours

Cubicles/rooms that I could use for a day, potential to lock the door so I can leave my computer for few minutes.

Renew the Open Access fund for junior faculty!

Wish Granted!  The Open Access Fund was reopened in October 2014, and the library hopes to offer it again in 2015.

wishes granted, open access

Cafe would stay open later. Coffee is important past 3pm!

Best library I've been to! Love all of the study rooms and kitchen amenities. I was there everyday for weeks when studying for my pre-lim exam.

But seriously, later access to coffee would be great! :)

I wish library purchases this book volumes: Protein Folding Handbook by Johannes Buchner (Editor), Thomas Kiefhaber (Editor)

Access to more electronic copies of journals and books. I know that it will be very expensive, but if there is something we pay for article basic at much cheaper prices, that will be nice. I know we can request it through inter-library loan, but it takes sometime to get the copy, but if we can access instantaneously if the journal is available online, it will be great.

It is nice that now we can access the library 24 hours with ID badge. It will also be nice to have some 24 hour food options, simething like vending machines with food and coffee. Even the library cafe is not open for long hours during normal days.

I wish for more study rooms with windows. The windowless ones are depressing.

I wish the coffee shop was open longer, at least until 5. This is a medical campus and past 3 pm the only place to get coffee is all the way over at Dazbog. I wish the one in the library was open until at least 5, even just the coffee, everything else can shut down.

I wish the library was open longer on Friday and Saturday.

Wish #3 granted! The library will be open 24/7 starting Oct 13 for CU Anschutz faculty, staff and students. More information is available on the library blog. (http://hslnews.wordpress.com/2014/09/17/247-access-for-cu-amc-students-a...)

Faster time when ordering through prospector. Or better navigation of site to choose locations which will have a faster response (ie closer)

More leisure books (mysteries!)

The walking desk is cool, but can we have some gym ball chairs (or just gym balls in place of chairs). They are really good for those of us who err on the ADHD side.

LOW COST COFFE SHOP

GREEN LIBRARY LAMPS IN QUIET STUDY ROOMS ON EVERY TABLE

LOW COST SNACK BAR(HEALTHY)

I wish for a FREE coffee machine, similar to what they use in gas stations.

I wish the library kept up with the new versions of the textbooks that classes are using, and had a book for every available class. I don't like carrying around all my textbooks when I go to the library because they get very heavy. I know there is a system like that available now, but the book versions are old or the books aren't available for all the classes. This wish is just expanding and updating what it already there.

Being out in Aurora at night is kind of scary. It really prohibits me going to the library, because I do not want to be walking across campus when the sun goes down. I wish they offered validated parking after 4pm. I imagine you could receive a ticket stub when you first go into the parking lot and get it punched by the librarians when you come in and leave the library. Then when you leave the parking lot you don't pay a fee because you were there studying.

Wish #2 - Let us know what textbooks you need and the library can likely get them! Send an e-mail to Paul.Andrews@ucdenver.edu with titles.

Offer Microsoft office training, particularly Access training.

computer software classes

Have desk lamps in the study rooms (or lamps available to bring into the study rooms)!!! The flourescent lights are very hard on the eyes.

More study rooms. There is a lot of 'wasted space' in the library and I often can't find a study room.

Longer hours!

Wish #3 granted! The library will be open 24/7 starting Oct 13 for CU Anschutz faculty, staff and students. More information is available on the library blog. (http://hslnews.wordpress.com/2014/09/17/247-access-for-cu-amc-students-a...)

Student-only space (like a Student lounge) with recreational and social stuff in an area where some noise is permitted.

More single-occupant and group study rooms/carrels

Expanded access to online journals and their archives (It's surprising how many articles (especially archived ones) that cannot be accessed from campus.)

relaxation and fun, study rooms, quiet, collection requests, journals

It seems like every time I am with a group and looking for a group room, they are all full- many times with individuals in a room by themselves. I know there are signs saying groups take priority, but I wish there was a different system instead of kicking out these individuals. Maybe some sort of logger of rooms, where everyone who wants to use a room signs up at the desk, and there are some set aside only for groups? Or a time limit for individuals or something? It is very frustrating not being about to find a room when with a group so as not to disturb other library guests.
